Mixed Bag Arrangement #2

Today I worked on my structure for the arrangement and thought about the components of this work to include in order to create a meaningful learning experience for potential students.

I have decided to build my arrangement on 3 main sections, including an improvisation section.

Section 1 - Introduction - Bordun part on the lower instruments and staggered entry of harmony and percussion ostinatos.

Section 2 - Bridge & Chorus - build up of harmonic and melodic material to create rich and thick texture. various patterns both rhythmic and melodic overlapping to create syncopation.

Section 3 - Improvisation - Bordun continues (same as section 1). Harmony and melody parts are reduced to chord tones, percussion ostinatos are simplified just enough to maintain sense of pulse and compound time. Chance for individuals to improvise over the top using notes from the key of A minor (in the classroom, the teacher would scaffold this section in a lesson).

Section 4 - Bridge & Chorus (repeat of Section 2)

I am really happy with how it sounds at the moment and I think that this structure will enable any teacher to explore key patterns, melodies, compositional aspects and performance ideas thoroughly.
