Putting it into Practice:

Yesterday at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Music Education students had the privilege of working with Ensemble Offspring to record material for a composition resource for Stage 4-5 students.

We began the afternoon by setting up all the equipment including the Mobile Video Studio (catch up on my recent post about this equipment here), and lots of microphones. Then we did a soundcheck of all the instruments and finalised camera & mic angles.

Check out our time lapse of this process:

Finally, it was time to record!

They performed a composition Bree Van Reyk’s work Light for the First Time which was commissioned by the ensemble last year.

We also had a chance to have a chat to the performers and the composer about the ensemble, contemporary Australian music, and the composition process.

It was an interesting afternoon and stay tuned to see what we do with the material!
